The cosmetics and skin care industries are huge and turnover billions of dollars every year. There are lots of US women looking for solutions to looking younger and looking good, and plenty of big companies that take advantage of this.
It’s a shame but many skin care and anti aging products really do very little. Sadly the cosmetics and anti aging industry is are insufficiently regulated in the US and these companies can put almost any ingredient into their products without proving that are safe for people to use or that they work.
As a result there are many anti aging skin care treatments available that don’t work, and contain suspect, or known to be dangerous ingredients.
Even so there are large numbers of skin care products being advertised as making your skin look younger and you look great and there’s huge volumes of these products sold.
So, how do you navigate your way through all this to choose an anti aging skin care treatment that does work, and doesn’t contain ingredients that you should be scared of?
This is how not to choose your anti aging products.
1. It’s important to avoid fragrances in skin care and anti aging products that you might buy. Now we all like to smell good, and the big companies know that so use fragrances. Look younger and smell good at the same time.
But there’s 2 problems. Firstly it’s unlikely that the skin care cream you’re buying will do very much to make you look younger.
And secondly, fragrances are chemicals and not good to put on your skin. And it’s exactly the same with perfumes, but with a perfume you only use a little here and there, but with a skin care cream you apply much more.
2. Don’t buy anti aging creams with collagen in them. Now this looks counter intuitive doesn’t it? Any educated in care consumer knows that the loss of collagen in your skin with ageing leads to skin sagging and wrinkles so it must be good increasing skin collagen levels.
Well yes and no. It’s true that it is important to replace lost collagen, however molecules of collagen are very large and cannot enter skin pores, so putting collagen in the bottle really does nothing at all except perhaps making you feel good.
But you can increase the levels of collagen in the skin by stimulating the skin to produce more of it’s own collagen.
Why do you see collagen in the bottle and why too is that well-known big-time movie star in the advertisements telling you how much younger she looks? Because the anti aging companies know that people buy the products if they have collagen in them, so they sell lots of bottles.
Even if it doesn’t do anything for you. Even if the ingredients are suspect. It will sell.
That’s marketing.
But there is a problem. It costs huge amounts of money to pay that special celebrity to make the TV advertisement telling you how great those products are.
So the anti aging skin care treatment that really doesn’t do much costs a bomb too. But that’s fine because most people believe that if it’s really expensive it has to be good. So they pay anyway.
There’s 2 things that you have to look for and avoid if you’re in the market for a good skin care treatment. There’s more, but that’s for another time, or visit my website.
So maybe you should just give up on anti-aging products because they don’t work? No. Surprisingly there are very good anti aging skin care products that work well, are reasonably priced and also use known safe ingredients.
These products are not made by the big companies but by small niche skin care companies you won’t have heard of. They don’t spend up big on advertising on TV and that is the reason products are reasonably priced and also the reason you’ve probably never heard of. Keep reading →
